A cold front moved through yesterday. It got to 72 degrees but the wind was blowing at a steady 25 miles per hour. This makes fishing difficult, so the next best thing is watching other people fish. We went to Bob Hall Pier where the surf was raging. At the end of the pier, where the big gunners fish, there were two bull reds being tagged. They were over three feet long and had to weigh about 40 pounds. While there another bull red was hooked. The guy fought if for about 5 minutes before it broke his 45-pound test line. That will get your fishing fever up.

We left and went to the pier in Cole Park, located in downtown Corpus Christi. There was a family fishing at the end of the pier. The father was busy untangling a backlash in his reel (the size of a Robin's nest), while the mom fished and watched the two kids. There was a 2 to 3 year old girl with a box of toys who was keeping active. The little boy was around 1 year old and was strapped in a stroller. He had a cherry Tootsie-Pop in his right hand. You could tell that he was enjoying the Tootsie-Pop as he was salivating faster than he could swallow. He was covered from head to toe with red sticky goo. He held out the Tootsie-Pop to share with passers by. I don't know how they got the kid home without taking him through a car wash. I'm sure there were couples that made the decision, right then and there, never to have kids. Usually that decision is made at Chuckie-Cheese on a Saturday afternoon.

The little girl wanted to share also. She went to her toy box and got a wooly worm. It was one of those fuzzy caterpillars that people use to forecast mild or harsh winters. Susie asked if she was going to take it home and the mother announced that both caterpillars came from home. Both? It turns out the boy had one in his left hand. It was stuck down with the red goo. He licked it about a dozen times, which added about as much red goo as he sopped up. Well, you can watch a kid tongue-groom a worm just so long, then its time to go. The forecast: This kid will grow up tough.
