We have 18 gauge round wire in dead soft. All of our other wire is half hard. We have 20 gauge Half Round, 18 gauge half round and 21 gauge square wire. It all comes coiled in the same radius I get from the foundry, about 7 inch diameter coils.

This is a skill that improves with practice. When I was first learning I ended up with a quart Mason jar full of scrap Sterling Silver, but I practiced a lot and was probably overly critical.  

Cuttlebone casting using scrap Sterling Silver is a fun sideline.
