Welcome to the Tumbleweed Glass Studio. This site reflects our passions and interests and evolves as our lives change. We started with mining and silversmithing, got interested in warm glass then lampwork bead making. That led to making wirewrap jewelry. Susie developed her own style and skills, wrapping her freeform dichroic cabochons. Steve concentrated on ring making. Welcome to our world. We sell wirewrap jewelry in galleries on the Costal Bend of south Texas. We are in the process of sharing our skills with a series of DVDs on Wirewrap. Our first in the series is now available.

Wire Wrapped Jewelry

Our Wire Wrapped Ring DVD has been a great success. It is reasonable priced and lasts 1 hour and 42 minutes. We were worried that a slowing economy would impact our sales. The opposite is occuring. People are starting to create their own jewelry, turning modest amounts of metal and stones into beautiful, wearable art.

With this DVD you can sit back on your couch, with a TV tray in your lap, and follow along at your own pace. The rings are made as if you are next to my right side. I show the rings being made in real time with explanations as I go, and up-close looks at the details. I show common problems and how to either avoid or deal with them. Essentially, this is what you would get if I were giving you a private lesson.

We now offering kits, combining our DVDs with plier-cutter sets and copper practice wire.

Tools

We now offer the tools that you need to transform metal and stones into wearable art. We have cutters, sets of pliers and the new Magical Bead Crimp Tool. EuroTool pliers have been our Go-To pliers for several years now, so we are proud to become distributors. We sell them at a discount to retail and offer USPS Priority shipping at actual cost, we don't add on a handling charge.

Our latest product is an eleven piece tool set to help getting started in wirewrap. The set includes three lap-joint pliers, leaf-spring pliers (round nose, chain nose and flat nose), sidecutter aluminum ring mandrel, rawhide mallet, pin vise with four interchangable collets, needle file, brass guage, steel ruler and a steel scribe. Have a look at it: Starter Kits Or watch a video where I show all of the components of the kit:

Tutorials

Our free tutorials remain our most popular pages. The most popular is the wire wrapped cabochon tutorial, and is an excellent starting point. We also have a popular Cuttlebone Casting tutorial. Visit them and enjoy.

New Lampwork Video

I just created a video that you can view here that explains my technique for peeling the impurities from clear soft glass. The scum on clear glass has long been a problem for lampwork bead makers. Whether you are adding clear dots or encasing an aquarium bead, this problem has been a curse to people working soft glass in a torch. This is my solution: Peeling Impurities from Clear Glass

Blog

We now have a Blog to provide support for our instructional DVD customers, as well as for friends of Tumbleweed Studio. Drop in and look around and comment. We also plan to do product announcements.
