When we go back to Corpus Christi we were chomping at the bit to hit the surf for some
fishing. I found a messageboard that was for surf fishing enthusists. I found the site while we were
in Michigan, so I was primed to fish. Last year while in Corpus Christi, we just fished from piers.
We were determined to learn to fish the surf. We have met a bunch of experienced surf people and
have learned a lot. Here is our Jeep backed up to the Gulf of Mexico. Two PVC pipes are screwed into
the sand to hold our rods. The third PVC pipe is in the water and holds a bucket containing live bait.
Live bait is a must for surf fishing. Buying the bait from a bait shop is trouble.
The bait is expensive and usually dies before you can get to the surf. Bait shops are good for shrimp,
ice and the ever popular Bait-Shop-Hoagie. To remedy this, everyone uses a cast net to
catch live bait. The fish that are in a position to get caught are usually feeding on the very type
of bait that can be caught in a cast net. The cast net is 11 feet in diameter, with lead weights
all around the perimeter. It takes some practice. Here I am tossing the thing.
We had our first show the 12th of November. I set the torch up and made some beads
while we were there. We have a gallery in the Art Center of Corpus Christi for a week beginning on
November 30th. I am going to be doing demonstrations on various beadmaking techniques and Susie will
demonstrate making wire wrap rings. We have an announcement in the paper every day we are down there,
so we hope to draw a croud. Last year the local paper also announced our demonstrations and people were
waiting for us when we arrived. We even made a few bucks.
